OUR
COEXISTENCE

OUR MISSION.

The "I Am Wildlife Safe" program is brought to you by the Wildlife Restoration Foundation. This programs mission is to promote harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife in urban and suburban environments as we share the natural resources within our landscapes.

As development continues to expand into forested and natural areas, wildlife encounters are becoming more common, often leading to misunderstandings and conflicts that can be dangerous for both human being and wildlife. Our goal is to provide practical solutions and educational resources that help residents adapt to these changes while respecting and protecting local wildlife.

OUR CHALLENGE.

Urbanization and development can generate a range of challenges for native wildlife and botanical species. Habitat loss from development fragments and diminishes natural spaces essential for many species. Pollution from urban runoff degrades water bodies, impacting aquatic life and surrounding ecosystems.

The spread of invasive species, facilitated by development, threatens to outcompete and displace native plants and animals. As human activity encroaches on wildlife territories, conflicts arise, endangering both wildlife and people.

Fragmented ecosystems can hinder a multitude of natural processes such as species migration and resource access, while light and noise pollution interferes with natural behaviors. Delving into these issues reveals the ultimate challenge of balancing growth with the preservation of Virginia’s rich biodiversity.

Forest Service U.S. Department of Agriculture

“Changes caused by human activity, including urbanization, climate change, and the conversion of forests to cropland, mean there are fewer habitats to support plants and animals. ."

OUR SOLUTION.

Living close to nature can be a rewarding experience, but it also requires some adjustments to avoid conflicts with wildlife and practices to assist in enhancing the health of your local ecosystem.

Join us in exploring practical tips to help community members coexist peacefully with their native wildlife neighbors!
